Project location & overview:
In September 2019, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government announced that 100 towns in England will benefit from the £3.6 billion Towns Fund. King’s Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council secured the maximum grant allocation of £25m for the regeneration of King’s Lynn.
The Towns Fund Riverside Project being developed using part of that funding allocation, and the key aim is to regenerate areas of the historic river front of King’s Lynn. One of the most important buildings in this area is the Customs House, a Grade 1 listed building along with the adjacent Purfleet Quay, and the surrounding historic environment. The proposals will seek to re-energise this area with new leisure and hospitality facilities involving the sensitive conversion and refurbishment of the Customs House, and the creation of new hard landscaping and facilities on the Quayside.
The project will create an exciting and vibrant new leisure area in the town, and to ensure that the historic Customs House and surrounding area, is given a new lease of life for the benefit of residents and visitors to the town.
