Greyfriars Project Management have assisted Great Yarmouth Borough Council in transforming a rundown outdoor space on the Middlegate residential estate into an accessible and sustainable communal area.
Funded by the government’s Estate Regeneration fund, the development aimed to increase pride in the area, reduce anti-social behaviour and provide residents with a high-quality social space.
The improvements included creating a sustainable communal garden space to encourage physical activity and removing outdated play equipment, replacing it with an accessible play area with sensory equipment.
“The transformation is incredible – particularly the addition of a wheelchair accessible play ship and roundabout. We’re so pleased to see the residents of the Middlegate estate now enjoying the new green space” says Jon Barnard, Director of Greyfriars Project Management.
Greyfriars Project Management came onboard in March 2022 to ensure the project was delivered as expected by autumn. With completion occurring at the beginning of October, residents are now using the upgraded area.
The project delivery specialists provided a range of services which were essential to the project, such as project management, contract management, stakeholder engagement, report writing, budgetary controls and more.
“We provided full project management services, including managing the contract to successful completion. This helped to ensure that the transformation of the poorly used area into a safe green leisure space was finished on time and on budget” adds Jon.
In addition to their services, the Greyfriars Project Management team attended a community day for volunteers, organised by Morgan Sindall Construction who carried out the works. This involved adding extra sparkle to the project, such as painting fences and planting flowers, which had been out of budget.
“We love working on projects which provide real public benefit and this one certainly had a community feel. We’re looking forward to seeing even more regeneration for the residents of Great Yarmouth over the coming years” concludes Jon.
Great Yarmouth is a Priority 1 area for the government’s Levelling Up Fund, meaning the iconic seaside town will receive money to help with a number of improvements. Greyfriars Project Management are involved in current and upcoming development projects in the area.
