Project Location & Overview
Greyfriars Project Management were thrilled to be appointed by Great Yarmouth Borough Council to provide project management and procurement support for the colourful development of new Beach Huts along Great Yarmouth’s seafront.
GYBC commissioned the construction of 43 purpose-built bases for the huts, which are recessed on a bespoke platform offering views over the dunes, sandy beach and out to sea. A dedicated amenity block has been built to serve the huts.
Our Project Manager, Richard Loveland, grew up just streets away from the beach huts and is immensely proud to have contributed to this successful project.

Procurement and Tendering Exercise
Greyfriars were brought in during RIBA Stage 3 to provide a full review of existing information and to assist the council in leading a successful retendering phase. This phase was crucial in achieving cost savings and ensuring the project stayed within budget.
The procurement process involved providing strategic advice and liaison with other consultants appointed by Great Yarmouth Borough Council, such as East Suffolk Council Procurement. One of the main challenges faced during this phase was ensuring contractor returns were within budget, which required adjusting the scope and specification of works.
Following the tender return, we undertook a review of the submissions and provided a highlight report including recommendations for the appointment.
Construction
Following the successful appointment of the main contractor, Scott Timber Buildings, we undertook weekly site inspections to monitor progress, address any emerging issues and ensure adherence to the project timeline. The colourful beach huts were successfully completed offering new facilities to Great Yarmouth’s residents and visitors.
As the project neared completion, we conducted a detailed snagging inspection to identify and rectify any defects or unfinished work, ensuring a smooth handover. This structured approach not only kept the project on schedule but also upheld the highest standards of safety and quality.
