Greyfriars Cost Management have opened two graduate roles in Norwich, expanding our existing trainee programme through a funded Masters in Quantity Surveying, a structured route through the APC to chartered status and real project work from the first week.

What we’ve launched
The programme has three parts which run together to support our candidates progression.
A supported Masters in Quantity Surveying. RICS-accredited, studied part-time alongside the job. You earn a salary from day one rather than taking a year out to study.
A structured route to MRICS. Supervision, counselling, and — more importantly — the kind of project work that actually gives you something to write about when you come to sit the APC. Professional membership fees are covered.
Real projects from the start. Not a training suite. Cost plans, tender packs, valuations, site visits, project meetings with clients and contractors in the room.
Why we started growing our own
Tim and Jon established Greyfriars Cost Management in December 2024 as the cost consultancy and quantity surveying practice alongside Greyfriars Project Management. Since then, the business has achieved RICS-regulated firm status and continued to grow its portfolio across the East of England. In January 2026, we welcomed our first trainee quantity surveyor.
Our team includes highly experienced Chartered Quantity Surveyors and Construction Professionals who are passionate about sharing their knowledge and supporting the next generation of the profession. As we looked ahead, it became clear that the long-term success of our industry depends on attracting, developing and retaining talented people. Rather than relying solely on recruiting experienced professionals, we made a conscious decision to invest in future talent. We are committed to funding professional qualifications, supporting candidates through their chartership journey, and providing meaningful project experience from the very start of their careers.
We believe the best Quantity Surveyors are developed through a combination of structured learning, strong mentorship and hands-on experience. By creating opportunities for graduates and career changers alike, we are building a team that understands our values, shares our commitment to quality, and grows alongside the business.

MSC Quantity Surveying
A Masters in Quantity Surveying is the first step towards becoming chartered. To progress to the RICS APC you need both an accredited qualification and real project experience. Many graduates discover that the qualification is only one part of the journey.
That’s why our approach combines academic study with hands-on experience from day one, allowing you to build both requirements at the same time.
Before starting a Masters, it is worth checking whether your existing degree is already RICS-accredited. If it is, you may already have the academic qualification you need and can focus on gaining the experience required for chartership.
Construction Graduates and Career Changers
Most consultancies run one graduate scheme and quietly filter out anyone without a construction degree. We have deliberately built two doors.
The Construction Graduate Pathway is for people who already have the technical grounding — Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Building Surveying, Civil Engineering or similar. You have spent three or four years building the knowledge. This route is about putting it to work and getting you chartered.
The Career Change Pathway is open to a degree in any discipline, with no construction experience required. It exists because of what the job is actually like. A quantity surveyor spends a great deal of time reading carefully, interrogating numbers, writing clearly and holding a straight conversation with a contractor about money. Those skills do not only appear in construction graduates.
Trainee Quantity Surveyor Ellen joined us in January 2026 on the Career Change Pathway with a degree in Psychology rather than a construction background. She is now eight months into live project work and studying for her Masters in Quantity Surveying, and she has already made a lasting mark on Greyfriars. Reading people and reading data turn out to be transferable in ways a job advert does not capture well.
So if you have been reading MSc course pages wondering whether a Psychology or Geography degree disqualifies you — it does not. The conversion route exists precisely for you, and somebody here has already walked it.
What you’d be working on
This is a regional practice doing work you can go and stand in front of. The wider Greyfriars group has delivered Great Yarmouth Market and worked on Hay Hill in Norwich city centre. Our portfolio runs across heritage restoration, public sector buildings, infrastructure, regeneration and community schemes throughout Norfolk, Suffolk and the East of England.
The practical difference for a trainee is scale. In a large consultancy with an intake of forty, meaningful client contact tends to arrive somewhere around year three. Here you are in project meetings and on site early, because there is nobody else to send. That means more exposure and slightly more pressure. It is the honest trade-off of joining a smaller team, and it is the reason people who start here tend to progress quickly.
