Sloughbottom Park Revitalisation

Sloughbottom Park, which first opened in 1929, is now set to undergo a major redevelopment funded by £7.6 million from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund and £850,000 from the Greater Norwich Growth Board. The investment reflects a commitment to improving public spaces in areas that have historically faced economic and social challenges.

Greyfriars will oversee project and cost management to ensure successful delivery:

  • Café Refurbishment: Preserving its heritage while boosting functionality.
  • Sports Facilities: Encouraging active, inclusive recreation for everyone.
  • Pathway Upgrades: Enhanced accessibility and connectivity.
  • Lighting Improvements: Safer and more usable evening space.
  • Parking Enhancements: Easier access and convenience for visitors.
  • Safety Measures: Better signage and surveillance for a secure environment.

Leadership and Coordination

Our Director of Cost Management, Tim Boucher, will serve as Lead Consultant, supported by Senior Project Manager, Tom Warnes, ensuring seamless coordination and execution of the regeneration efforts.

Tim Boucher shared his enthusiasm for the project:

“I am excited to be working on Sloughbottom Park project and contribute to creating a space that will benefit the entire community for generations to come. The park is a huge asset to the city already, so to see the planned improvements delivered will make it a destination for the local community and surrounding areas.  Our team is committed to delivering high-quality results that honour the park’s heritage while enhancing its functionality and safety.”

Greyfriars will provide comprehensive management, including cost and risk management, and daily project oversight.

Delivering Social Value for Mile Cross

The regeneration of Sloughbottom Park will deliver significant social value to Mile Cross. By investing in improved infrastructure, recreational facilities, and safety measures, the project will directly benefit local residents—particularly families and young people—by creating opportunities for healthier lifestyles, community engagement, and social cohesion.

This aligns with the Levelling Up Fund’s core goals: to invest in infrastructure that improves everyday life, boosts local pride, and reduces regional inequalities. The Sloughbottom Park regeneration is a clear example of how targeted investment can uplift communities and create lasting impact.

At Greyfriars, a commitment to working on projects that drive real social benefits to our local communities forms a key part of our values. As a local firm, we are dedicated to supporting Norwich City Council in preserving Sloughbottom Park and enhancing its role as a central hub for social, recreational, and cultural activities.
