Great Yarmouth O&M Hub Named Infrastructure Project of the Year at Norfolk Constructing Excellence Awards

The Great Yarmouth Operations and Maintenance Hub has been named Infrastructure Project of the Year at the Norfolk Constructing Excellence Awards, recognising the project’s contribution to the region’s renewable energy economy and the collaborative approach taken to its delivery. For Greyfriars, this is a huge milestone, with Phase 1 of the O&M Hub being one of our earliest commissions, which the Greyfriars team have been delivering since 2021.

Delivered on behalf of Norfolk County Council, the O&M Hub project will transform a once-underused stretch of quayside on Great Yarmouth’s South Denes into a strategically important shore-side base supporting offshore wind operations in the Southern North Sea. The £24.8 million scheme forms a key part of the town’s wider regeneration programme and its ambition to strengthen its role as a national centre for clean energy.

Phase 1 of the project was completed in early 2026 and included demolition and site clearance works, refurbishment and upgrading of 240 metres of river quay, construction of a new sheet-pile quay wall, and installation of a purpose-built Crew Transfer Vessel (CTV) pontoon. Works were delivered within a live marine environment and required close coordination with the Marine Management Organisation and harbour authorities.

The project was delivered through close collaboration between Norfolk County Council, Great Yarmouth Borough Council, and New Anglia LEP, supported by a multidisciplinary project team and delivered under NEC governance arrangements. Judges praised the scheme for demonstrating strong collaboration, clear governance, and long-term economic value.

Once operational, the O&M Hub is expected to support the growth of Great Yarmouth’s renewable energy cluster and help generate around 650 jobs, reinforcing the town’s role in supporting the UK’s clean energy transition.

Speaking following the award announcement, a Tom Warnes Senior Project Manager at Greyfriars Project Management said:

“This award recognises not only the scale and complexity of the O&M Hub, but the collaborative approach taken across all partners to deliver vital infrastructure that supports Great Yarmouth’s long-term economic future. It is a significant milestone for a project that will benefit the town and the wider region for decades to come.”

The Norfolk Constructing Excellence Awards celebrate excellence across the construction industry, recognising projects that exemplify best practice in collaboration, sustainability, safety, and social value.

Greyfriars Project Management provided client-side project management services for the Great Yarmouth O&M Hub on behalf of Norfolk County Council, supporting the project from early design and procurement through to delivery. Services included programme and risk management, governance and reporting, stakeholder coordination, and day‑to‑day support to the client team throughout construction within a live marine environment. The award recognises Greyfriars’ role in helping to deliver complex infrastructure projects through clear governance, collaborative working, and a strong focus on long‑term economic and community benefit.
